HELP IN Metal Gear Solid 1 for the playstation?

I just beat psycho mantis, and am now suppose to follow meryl in this cave, but she gets ahead of me and then she gets on the other side of this cave and theres no way i can get over there. I tried going this other way past the wolves but i keep dying. And I also wasnt able to go back and get the night vision goggles so im kinda stuck

    ok turn up the brightness on ur tv (cheating)
    go up and crawl under the first low thing
    go up while following the right wall and follow it around and down so it does an upside down U shape.
    go down and follow the newest right wall crawl into the hole to find meryl
    just punch and kick the wolves then run
    nothing to it really

    EDIT: you cant get the handerchief until AFTER u get tortured

    you need to go back and get the night vision goggles, just back track, its not that far.

    If you have a Handkerchief or something like that from Sniper Wolf equip that. The wolves won’t bother you.

    Edit – Why can’t you go back?
